The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation holds an international conference: “Modern electoral trends in the multipolar world”.
On 21 September 2017 the opening of the international conference “Modern electoral trends in the multipolar world”, organized by the CEC of Russia, took place.
“Last year, when our colleagues from different countries came as international observers on a Single Voting Day we talked and experienced that it is necessary to restore previous relationships, we need closer exchange of experience, we need contacts and Russian Federation has to contribute to this process” said the Chairperson of the CEC of Russia Ella Pamfilova. “Then, we agreed to meet in a year’s time to share experience, innovations, to work out joint understanding of how to position ourselves on the international level. I would like to discuss how together, maintaining identity and sovereignty, including electoral processes in each country we can create a unified field, standards, approaches, for example to monitoring the electoral process.”
The Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation spoke at a conference on modern electoral trends, in which she noted that the exchange of the information and experience in the field of conducting elections is highly important for the real improvement of the electoral process. “We can learn a lot from each other, because during the organization of election in our countries we all face the same reality and the same problems” - said the Chairperson of the CEC of Russia.
The opening of the Conference was attended by the First Deputy Chairperson of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS - Viktor Guminsky, Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO - Van Kayven, Member of the Election Commission of the Philippines - Parrenio Al Akong on behalf of the Association of Asian Election Authorities, Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation – Sergey Ordgonikidze, Deputy Chairperson of the International Affairs Committee of the Federal Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation – Andrey Klimov. Deputy of the Commission on elections of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Frolov read greetings on behalf of the Minister of foreign affairs Sergey Lavrov.
In total, more than 40 invited guests, in addition to members of the CEC of Russia, took part in the event. They are representatives of the election commissions of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, India, Philippines, Pakistan and other countries.
Representatives of the Council of Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, Information Centre of the UN in Moscow and other international organizations also took part in the event.
Ella Pamfilova expressed confidence that the practice of regular professional meetings at the site of CIS and SCO will develop.
A final document was adopted at the end of the conference.
