On 26 December 2018, Chairperson of the CEC of Russia Ella Pamfilova met with electoral journalists. The meeting was devoted to summarizing the events of the year and to prospects for the development of the electoral system.
In particular, the participants discussed the statistics of violations of electoral legislation, including during the repeat vote in the elections of the Governor of the Primorye Territory on 16 September, the results of which were canceled, and the tendency of the reduction of the number of such violations.
The Chairperson of the CEC of Russia reported that innovations of the electoral law and of the processes introduced in the course of 2018 will find their further development in the coming year. For example, it is planned to open 500 polling stations, where people will be able to vote in their regional elections, while being in another region.
In addition, issues of a possible change of a single voting day and of factors affecting it, prospects for changing the composition of precinct election commissions and the development of civil society in Russia were touched upon during the meeting.
